What I always find cool to share, is that I met Nel during my very first week of doing volunteer work (EVER) in 2018. I started with my first activities and one of them was walking with elderly in Westerpark. I got the chance to accompany Nel and I liked her goofy and optimistic character soo much - I’ve sticked around ever since✨ I try to visit her as much as I possibly can. She doesn’t get visits very often, so people sometimes think I am her grand daughter in the house;-) I always get treated with a hug when I leave and a ‘Tot snel’👋🏻

It’s amazing how many of you respond to my Stories with Nel - she has a lot of fans here - therefore Nel now now has her own highlight🔝

OOTD: what to wear when you volunteer✨

As I’ll be volunteering in an elderly home today, I choose for an outfit in a bold color to brighten up the day a little bit. They always love it💕

I picked a suit in a super comfortable fabric, so moving will be easy🕺🏼 Choosing for sneakers is always smart, because you’ll never know how much you’ll be walking or standing😉 I usually accessorize according to my outfit.
I always bring my phone-cord, so I can leave my bag somewhere and have my phone with me at all times🤳

There’s something important I forgot to bring though, which for me can be an essential to bring for volunteer work. Can you guess💭?

🇬🇧Last weekend it was NL-DOET, the volunteer

🇬🇧Last weekend it was NL-DOET, the volunteer activity-weekend in the Netherlands! The weather may have been a little difficult on some activities on Fridays, but nevertheless it was a successful weekend🙌🏻

I participated on both days and I really enjoyed it🧡 On Friday I participated with helping during the bingo at the Rietvinck. On Saturday I volunteered together with @florenceleyn at Boerderij de Lister in Utrecht - a residential house for ex-prisoners and people with physical issues or addictions. A place where they can find routine, calmness and peace🌱

Here we painted the barn, of which the residents look at every day, because it could use a makeover🎨It was a super fun day, the sun was shining, and we were taken care of so well as volunteers! We got coffee, tea, sweets, biscuits and croquettes for lunch. So kind! Thanks for taking good care of us💕! If you would like to help them after reading this post: they are registered with @stichtingpresent stichtingpresent for volunteer activities all year round!

🇳🇱Afgelopen weekend was het weer NL-DOET, het vrijwilligersweekend in Nederland van het @oranje_fonds! Het weer gooide bij sommige activiteiten op vrijdag wel wat roet in het eten, maar de inzet was er niet minder om🙌🏻

Ik deed beide dagen mee en ik vond het heel erg geslaagd. Op vrijdag deed ik mee met de bingo bij de Rietvinck, samen met Tante Nel en haar vriendinnen👯‍♀️Op zaterdag stak ik de handen uit de mouwen samen met @florenceleyn bij Lister de Boerderij in Utrecht - een woongroep voor ex-gedetineerde en met een psychische- of verslaving achtergrond. Zij leven rondom de boerderij in leuke tiny-houses🏡Hier schilderde wij de schuur, waar de bewoners dagelijks tegenaan kijken, want die kon wel een opknapbeurt gebruiken🎨 Het was een super gezellige dag, het zonnetje scheen, en wat werden we goed verzorgd! Koffie, thee, snoepjes, koekjes en als lunch kroketten. Een feestje! Bedankt voor de goede zorgen Lister de Boerderij🧡 En mocht je na aanleiding van dit berichtje ook eens willen helpen bij hen, ze staan aangemeld bij @stichtingpresent voor vrijwilligersactiviteiten het hele jaar door!

We stand up for the equal rights, treatments and privileges of women (in all shapes, types and beliefs) today! May everyday be a step forward in empowering women all of the world 🌍

I would like to highlight the inspiration I get from women around me. So many women are role models for others, without even knowing it. By the way they live their lives, the choices they make, the visions they have, the way they speak up for themselves, their bravery and above all their kindness✨ Keep doing what you do and be proud of it, you (silently) inspire others to do the same.

I’m proud of you, Mo💪🏻🌟

When we first met here at @regenboog020 during my volunteer shift, you just arrived in NL and were a calm guest - we didn’t speak that much due to the language barriers.

I got back a month later and look at you now:
🌟 it’s your last day here because you found your own place, thanks to the team here.
🌟 You found a job where you feel really happy. I meet you there sometimes and you do so well🙌🏻
🌟You learn Dutch and English during work, greet customers with your smile and “alles goed😁?”
🌟You’re looking forward to join the gym shortly to work on your own strength and meet friends!

Mo, you can be SO proud of yourself. Of how you achieved a life for yourself on such short notice! I wish you all the luck in the 🌎 and I’ll see you soon.

Last week I joined TKRAMREPUS for a day as a volunteer - running their iconic store and welcoming customers in. Their ‘reversed supermarket’ is such a unique concept and so needed🧡 I'll tell you why it's so special:

🛒The supermarket is meant to only bring groceries, instead of getting yours. Donating groceries during your everyday stroll is a habit that will be more familiar for everyone (I hope), because of @tkramrepus 🙌🏻 It's sad but super needed that more and more stores like these open their doors to support society. I would like to thank everyone that stopped by last week to donate, it has been so heartwarming and helpful what you do!

🛒This store is a supporting system for people with little budget, where they can get 6 free items every week. Most customers come via the Foodbank @voedselbankennederland , but I've heard such a diverse variation of stories about the situations they are in and why they can use some help. During their shopping, we serve them a cup of coffee and ofcourse there is plenty of time to chat☕️💭 They are all so thankful to get the opportunity to pick and choose extra products to support their everyday lives. This store is bringing customers happiness, dignity (to make their own choices), less stress to feed their kids, offers the chance to talk about their issues, and gives opportunities to share (as most share all they get with neighbors/family)👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Incredible how the team of @knappekoppen.work developed this concept and made this store an iconic game-changer in Amsterdam🔄 Like to help them out? Stop by and donate, or reach out to them to help as a volunteer for a day💛💥

I’ve recently been investing a lot of time in studying the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and how CSR can help in achieving them. CSR, Cultural and Social Responsibility - implemented in the right way - can help achieving 13 out of 17 Goals.

It’s such a powerful tool to improve your business, as well as making the world a better place🤝🌱💛 And you can start with it by tomorrow.

I am beyond excited to spend all my time and energy the upcoming years in helping companies making more impact in the world, with all the knowledge I have on SDG’s⚡️

OOTD: what to wear when you volunteer✨
