What I do for Hebben & Houwen

Since the beginning of August, I started a new voluntary role: I work as Social Media coordinator voluntary at the Clothing Bank in Amsterdam. This organization has a physical store in Amsterdam Noord and support minima in clothing. The collaborate closely with the Foodbank (voedselbank) in order to support those in need with basic supplies.

At the Clothingbank, customers are able to make an appointment twice a year to get a full styling session. These sessions are for FREE and run by enthusiastic volunteers. The customers are able to choose a new wardrobe of +- 20 pieces each including shoes, a jacket and underwear.

This support-organization is incredible and helps so many people with basic needs. The clothes are free, but the styling session is a moment of personal attention – something that is priceless. Each visitor gets a special treatment and leaves the store with a bag full of new clothes. And the offer of clothes is really good: many supplies are new and come from collaborating companies.

Events & their vintage shop

Every month, they open their doors of the clothingbank for public – to sell some styles that have been in the store for 3,4 months. This monthly event, Banne Bazar, is really worth a visit as they have incredible good items in their assortment and many brands such as &Otherstories, Zara, Mango, Sissy Boy, Shein and Goosecraft.

Recently, they opened a vintage and retro clothing store next to the Clothingbank. This store has a unique assortment which is priced, in order to get income to support the Clothingbank financially. Vintage items such as leather bikers, cowboy boots, Levi’s 501, Burberry Trench coats and checked shirts. It’s needed to have these items priced for rent, for heating, for coffee and for new supplies such as diapers.

Why I like to help here

My role as a volunteer? Creating more awareness and attention for this beautiful concept! Making people understand the importance of this charity, activating people to donate their not-worn fashion items to the Clothingbank and to motivate fashion lovers to visit the unique Retro & Vintage store to support this charity financially (prices are very small though!).

VLOGS

I love to give you an impression of the organization and the stores! Therefore I made two videos for The Clothingbank – one about the retro & vintage store and one about their Monthly event and open shop ‘Banne Bazar.’ Curious what you think.
