These are hard times. Even if you like to volunteer, most activities get cancelled or postponed. But there are always things you CAN do and therefore below a few tips you can do as a volunteer during Corona lockdown. And please, send me your TIPS & IDEAS to add if you have more:)

Write a postcard to someone you know, or you don’t know, to make people feel noticed and less lonely

You can do this digitally and quick (through Hallmark, Greetz, Oranjefonds or order one personalized at CMR Rijmpjes) or you can write a physical postcard by hand (now that you have time – very personal).

Offer your neighbors some help!

Write a small note in the mailbox, hang a memo in the hallway, send a message in the app or check a message board in a store or on Facebook. Maybe you can be of great help with doing groceries, picking up a package or medicines, lend a book or a video or maybe watching the kids or walking the dog once.

Look for a voluntary task you can do digitally

Such as Social Media, blogging, doing interviews or making videos for schooling programs or trainings. Very helpful these days! You may find good options at VCA or NL Cares.

Find an outside voluntary task with fairly little people

How about gardening? Or walking a dog from the shelter? Cleaning up a playground or picking plastics? Find something to do with little people and the possibility to stay away from each other 2 meters. Safety first.

Donate!

It’s as easy as ABC, but we sit at home and can’t spend our money. Therefore instead, we can donate our savings to organizations who need it (think: Red Cross, Help Refugees, Doctors without Borders, Amref Flying Doctors, PLAN and more).

Another way to donate: clean up your stuff – donate Bra’s to Lesbos, donate books to education organizations, food to your local Foodbank sleeping bag to your local homeless shelter or your clothes to a charity organization or clothing bank. Win-win-win!

If you can, help out in medical care

Sometimes it is possible to give an extra hand to doctors, in hospitals or elderly homes. Especially in these times they could use help more than ever from vital people. For the Netherlands, have a look here where you can help.
